AGING
Simple Steps to Boost Bone Health. Weak and brittle bones don’t have to be part of aging. Your bones are a living tissue that rebuilds itself. Your bone mass reaches its peak between your mid-20s and mid-30s. You can “borrow” from that banked strength as you get older. Here’s how to get and keep your bones dense at any age.
Super Steps to Boost Digestive Health. To meet the daily fiber requirement of 20-35 grams, choose plant-based foods such as cherries, grapes, crunchy bell peppers, beans, whole grains, and nuts. These help with digestion and constipation and are also good for your heart and blood sugar. Because they fill you up, you’ll eat less, which also helps if you’re watching your weight.
HEALTH
What Your Eye Symptoms May Mean. Red or Bloodshot. Tiny blood vessels in your eye may expand or burst when they get irritated or infected. It could also be a sign of allergies or dryness. It’s pretty standard and often resolves on its own without treatment. An injury, glaucoma, cuts, scratches, and sores on your cornea could be more serious. Check with your eye doctor if your eye hurts or doesn’t improve in a day or two, or if you have trouble seeing.
Everyday Habits to Ease Inflammation. Your body needs some inflammation to fight infection and speed healing. However, prolonged exposure to excessive amounts can cause your immune system to attack healthy organs and tissues mistakenly. This can lead to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and irritable bowel disease. Luckily, there are ways to keep the flames at bay.
Commonly Abused Prescription and OTC Drugs. Drug abuse isn’t just about street drugs. Besides marijuana, legal medicines are the most widely abused drugs in the U.S. Over-the-counter and prescription drugs can help and heal us. But some can be addictive and dangerous if they’re used the wrong way.
I’ve written several books on subjects that may interest you.
END TIMES: How to understand Bible prophecy. There are hundreds of books written about prophecy and the signs of the times, suggesting that we are in the end times, based on the author’s interpretation of the Bible. The problem with signs of the end times is that there is no biblical support for their claims.
Do you love to take pictures?. Has this ever happened to you? You’re with your friends, and something memorable is happening, so you want to capture it. You take some pictures that you’ll want to keep as memories. You get home and upload them to your computer so you can do some post-processing or review them. And maybe you will get some prints made. But your photos are blurry. Not terrible, but not good enough to print. You’ve got some pictures that you can save for memories on your phone, but they look awful when they’re any bigger. Taking great photos with a phone camera is more complicated than with an SLR. A significant reason is that the iPhone is lighter, which makes it harder to hold still. You are likely taking those types of pictures while having fun and not thinking about taking pictures.
PAIN RELIEF
Bad Habits for Your Back. It goes against the natural alignment of your spine. Slumping forward also puts more pressure on your lower back. Gently stretch and move your head and neck up and down, and to the right and left, every half hour. To ease any pain or spasm, apply an ice pack or heating pad to the area. Be sure to cover the skin with a light towel or cloth before applying the cream. See your doctor if the pain persists.
Tips to Keep Joints Healthy. It’s the golden rule of joint health: The more you move, the less stiffness you’ll have. Whether you’re reading, working, or watching TV, change positions often. Take breaks from your desk or your chair and get active.
MEMORY LOSS
Even Light Exercise Could Help Slow Cognitive Decline in People at Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease. In a landmark clinical trial of physical exercise in older adults with mild memory loss, individuals who exercised at low or moderate-intensity levels showed less cognitive decline compared to those receiving usual care.
Bad Habits That Can Hurt Your Brain. You do a few things you know you shouldn’t — we all do. But some of those bad habits can take a toll on your brain. For example, lack of sleep may be a cause of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. It’s best to have regular sleeping hours. If you have trouble with sleep, avoid alcohol, caffeine, and electronics in the evening, and start a soothing bedtime ritual.
FITNESS
Exercises to Burn Belly Fat. As people get older, it’s common to see an increase in belly fat buildup along the waistline. This is usually because muscle mass decreases with age as fat increases.
Three simple exercises everyone in their 60s should do to keep fit and strong for life. As we age, our balance, stability, and coordination can decline. One way to counteract this is to build strength with functional workouts. Functional exercises mimic everyday actions and strengthen the muscles we use regularly, which can help us maintain good mobility for an extended period. And when we keep our bodies’ strength and agility, we are less prone to injury and chronic health conditions.
FOOD
Low-Carb Choices for Fast Food. A juicy cheeseburger should be only an occasional treat. Ditch the high-carb buns or ask for the meat patties wrapped in lettuce. You’ll keep the flavor and protein, but little to no empty carbs. If bread is a must, try eating your burger with just one bun instead of two. Go easy on ketchup, mayo, and other condiments.
Slideshow: Best Diet Tips Ever. Before you tear into that bag of potato chips, drink a glass of water first. People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger, so you can end up eating extra calories when an ice-cold glass of water is all you need. If plain water doesn’t cut it, try drinking flavored sparkling water or brewing a cup of fruit-infused herbal tea.
TECHNICAL
Avoid public USB charging stations. They could hack your phone. Security researchers have discovered a vulnerability that enables hackers to infiltrate phones by exploiting manipulated USB charging stations.
Stop Ignoring These 7 Game-Changing iPhone Features. Phones have undergone several notable upgrades over the years, both in hardware and software. But even if you’re a long-time iPhone user, there’s a good chance you’re not aware of (or have ignored) some of its lesser-known features.
